In class Exercise Revised - Extraordinary within the Ordinary

The concept is about "the amazing life strength", and the focus is on the small little plant growing out from unsoiled and "lifeless" place.

This photo is taken outside of SoC. This little thingy tries its best to continue its life despite of being chopped off.
Meanwhile this guy grown out from somewhere without the supporting element eg soil. It is amazing to think of how strong is their will to survive.

Final Project - My Ideal Princess

Concept

Seven Disney Princesses (Mulan, Ariel (Little Mermaid), Jasmine (Aladdin), Aurora (Sleeping Beauty), Cinderella, Snow White, Belle (Beauty & the Beast)) are perverted to show the various sins in society today. The 7 Deadly Sins, also known as the Capital Vices or Cardinal Sins, is a classification of objectionable vices that have been used since early Christian times to educate and instruct followers concerning fallen humanity's tendency to sin. The currently recognized version of the sins are usually given as wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy, and gluttony.

The concept for this series is “connection with your beloved one”. Mobile camera phones allows users to maintain their social relationships as well as serving as a tool to preserve those prescious moment

between their beloved one. Being convenient to be carried around yet non-intrusive, it always captures the most natural atmosphere of the subject. Instant sharing is another important features of keitai which

enhance the connectivity one step further. Your friend makes a funny expression, you capture it and upload it to social media platform

instantly, and peers will start discussing about and liking it. With a keitai, you are connecting to the people around you through photos that depict the most vivid and natural moment.

Assignment 3 Revised - The End of The World

The concept is about the giant gorilla-like monster fighting against the dragons in the urban settting, while the human try to protect

their own homeland.

Class Exercise 4 - On Photoshop

1) Undestructive Editing

- an editing technique which prevent the source to be "destroyed", allowing the user to go back and forth along the process. Achieved through layering, masking, and smart object.

2) Layer Mask

- perform pseudo-editing on a separated by linked masked layer instead of the source itself.

3) Smart Object

- instead of duplicating the entire image as a single layer, we package it into an object, and dupliacte it to the other layer or file. Similar to OOP in programming, the object maintain it's state and characteristic, thus allowing further modification on the object in the future without destroying it.

Assignment 2 - Keitai Phenomena

The main idea is "connection with friends". Mobile camera phones helps to maintain social relationships, apart from serves as a convenient tool for us to preserve those precious moment better(to some extent) than DSLR as it is the tool that you always being carry around, as well as it's non-intrusive characteristic. Which means, the smile on the people and the reaction of the subject are the most natural.

Where it could be hard for a DSLR to perform in such a crowded situation, keitai plays its role well. Friends would always crowd together and discuss on the photos taken, or make laugh of their friends for being "unglam" on the photo that you took on keitai.

And lastly, people always like to take a group photos during outing or gathering, and keitai is the tool for us to preserve that moment.

Class Exercise 2 - Look for the extraordinary within the ordinary

This is a hard exercise, furthermore we are required to do it in 20minutes without pre-planning and equipment in hand. With the only old Sony Ericsson phone in hand, I am really not certain that the 3.2MP camera with scratched lens can do a good job for me.

Since I lost the transmitter cable, I was unable to retrieve the photos from my phone. Will upload it afterwards.

Assignment 1 - Exposure Triangle

Photos were taken separately. The photo below is about Deep Depth of Field, with the camera setting of F11 and studio light.

However, I just realized that this is not what Jing meant by "DDOP", because there is no object in contrast to bring out the field depth.

The next photo is Shallow Deep of Field. The shoot was took back in Malaysia when I went home for weekend. I was at one of the traditional kopitiam hanging out with my friends. The atmosphere was just nice that it reflected the vintage feeling.

The 3rd photo is on Freeze Moment. The model turned around her body and with the aid of a hair dryer (><), under shutter speed of 1/200s, I managed to capture this pretty moment.

However Jing pointed out that the portion of the object is important in order to bring out the theme. Well I hope the photo was significant enough.

The last photo was about Motion Object. Honestly I ran out of time to shoot this last topic and had to purposely bring down the camera to the canteen and asked my friend to shake his hands while he ate as though he suffered from alzheimer. LOL

Panning Trial

Jing decided to ask us did the panning exercise on the spot after the tutorial. So with 550D that we have just borrowed from CNM Lab, Jeremy and I tried to try out the new theories that we have learnt.

We managed to capture the bus when it was about to drive in. We used Tv mode with 1/30 shutter speed as the bus was moving slowly. 8~10 photos were taken in burst mode, but it turned out that only 1 photos that are in focus and in (at least) better composition.

Another car passed by and we grabbed our camera again. With the same setting, and after taken another 8~10 photos, we managed to get this photo with more panning effect. It gives a sense of motion while the lines and the direction lead our eyes out of the photo.
